There are many perks to living in California other than the beautiful sunny weather and the beach. One of them is running into people like Dave from The Buried Life at Sunday brunch. On top of that, being an intern at Falling Whistles has many perks other than the obvious of working towards peace. One of these is the ability to give your whistle away in the hopes of spreading awareness about what is happening in Congo which has the added benefit of being a natural conversation starter.
Laura Schmalstieg, or Schmalls as I like to affectionately call her, was able to put both of these perks together into one awesome interaction this weekend when she happened to run into Dave at The Alcove. He had already heard of us and now, thanks to Schmalls, has a whistle to wear close to his heart.
There is something amazing about giving your whistle away to someone, especially someone like Dave, who stands for something you believe in: empowering people. If there is a better feeling that getting your whistle for the first time, it might be giving someone else theirs for the first time.
Have you ever given your whistle away to spread the word about Congo or acknowledge an extraordinary whistleblower in your life?
Love,
Caitlin and The FWinterns
